Russell Eastwood - Mapping the Gap - Session 2

Follow Up and Things to Do:
Love Languages - Languages of Appreciation
  • Am I using them with my team and within the wider school?
  • Set aside time and effort to use with the team.
REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy)
  • 3rd Space before getting into the conversations. Ritual before going into a conversation to focus.
  • Ask the question because you want to know the answer.  Listen to the answer and then ask the question from that. Listen in the moment.
Listening
  • Contextual Listening - when someone is talking you hear:
    • Words
    • Emotions, Pace, Tone, Volume
    • Stress, Anger, Fear, Resistance, Understanding, Confusion
  • Make the call. Do you want to be interrupted now and hold the conversation now? put it off until you can give them more time?
Using Neutral Language
  • Openness
  • Not taking a position
  • Not reactive
  • Use 'I' statements
  • Facts
  • Redirect
  • One message at a time
